It looks as if the building occupying Milkboy in Center City Philadelphia was snatched up by Jefferson University Hospital for a reported $2.1 million dollars. Located at 1100 Chestnut Street, the bar has been a favorite for local and nationally recognized bands.
The move comes at an interesting time now that they are opening up another location at Fourth and South Street that will supposedly specialize in acoustic and jazz. See Milkboy South Street here.
The move doesn’t come without some ramifications, mainly a hospital owning more real estate. Perhaps it’s a fine business move on their behalf. Feeling better after your checkup? Grab a drink, see a band, and get some food.
Still, seeing Milkboy open another location in Philly brought some warmth to our hearts. It’s a delectable choice to help cultivate Philadelphia’s incredible music scene. In recent years, as we’ve seen ridiculous propositions to hinder rather than help Philly. (See the withdrawn bill here)
We’re looking forward to seeing what the future holds for Milkboy and getting the chance to review the new location for ourselves.
